LCPOA Recreational Trails News
Recently, a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) was filed by the Hudacks (LCPOA member residents) to stop the installation and recordation of new Recreational Trails in La Cresta.  The hearing was held last Friday in Riverside and the following are the results:

The judge ruled that the TRO was denied and the Hudack's could file a formal motion, if desired, to obtain a 'permanent injunction'.  A hearing date of August 5 was established, at which time the Court will hear arguments for/against a permanent injunction motion against the LCPOA Association.

In the meantime, the judge ruled that the Association may continue to accept new trail easements, build new trails, and maintain existing trails, providing the new easements or trails are not on either the Hudack or Siggard properties, which back to each other on Via Majorca and Via Vista Grande, respectively.

Please contact the Recreational Trails Committee Chair, Marge Etchandy (consult your directory or website), if you have any questions regarding granting an easement on your property.

From Friends of the Forest & Plateau regarding Powerlines and LEAPS:
THIS IS THE GROUP OF ATTORNEYS THAT DONATE THEIR TIME TO FIGHT ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSES.  WE TRIED FOR MANY YEARS TO GET THEM TO REPRESENT FOF&P AND THE PLATEAU AGAINST THIS POWER LINE, THEY FINALLY AGREED.  I UNDERSTAND THEY HAVE A 97% WIN RATE AND ARE AN AWESOME FORCE.  THEY CHARGE FOR OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES LIKE TRAVEL TO SAN FRANCISCO OR OTHER POWER LINE MEETING SITE, INVESTIGATORS, CLERKS, STUDIES, COPYING FEES FILING FEES, MAPS, REPRODUCTION COSTS ETC. THEY WILL GET ANY FUNDS FOF&P HAS, TO FIGHT THE POWER LINE PROPOSED BY EVMWD,  CPUC, FERC, FORESTRY, NEVADA HYDRO, SUNRISE POWER LINK AND ANY OTHER ANACHRONYM THAT IS OUT THERE.

FIRE ALERT!  This weekend my husband & I went for a cart ride around our property.  We went outside of our gates to the very front of the property and we smelt smoke.  It was a very beautiful and very HOT weekend so we assumed it was someone starting a barbeque.  What we found was someone had thrown a lit cigarette out their car window and the cigarette had been smoldering in our bark shavings out front for who knows how long?  The heat was very hot and was ready to ignite had we not discovered it.  Who knows what would have happened had we not found it our not been home!  Please, this is a reminder to everyone to please pay attention and be extra careful during this very dry and very hot time of year.

Thank you, Jodi

Our Plateau UPS driver for this area, Lonnie Andrews, has cancer again. She has been so careful watching our kids and dogs, that I thought it would be nice to see if anyone would like to donate to help her with her bills. The driver now, Javier has given me her address. Thanks, Janice.  Cell # 909-322-5722.   May08.

Riverside County now has a new reverse 911 system, that will be used in the event of a emergency or fire in our area. According to the County, listed and unlisted land line phones are already in their system and will be used, and you can add your cell phone number in case you are away from home, by going onto the Riverside County Fire website at this link.

WARNING HORSE OWNERS! from Marni Ward, asst. to Dr. McNeel (horse vet)
There are a number of Fiddleneck weeds that are growing everywhere this spring. They are toxic to horses so be sure to keep your horses from grazing on them.  Fiddleneck (tarweed)- Causes photophobia, photosensitivity, jaundice, liver failure, diarrhea, depression, aberrant behavior (head pressing, incessant licking, aimless walking), weight loss, edema of the extremities. As little as 15 mg of dried plant per kilogram of weight over 2 weeks will induce severe liver failure. It takes aproximately 50 lbs. to kill / poison a horse over a life time.  The weed

can't be digested and accumulates in the horse's belly. It is a sad death for your

horse. The weed is about 24 inches tall. It grows in a bunch but you can see each tall stalk and at the tip it is curled over like the end of a fiddle. Small blooms are yellow. See the weed on this site and in the photo.

Latest from LEAPS Power Line: http://www.stopleaps.info/images/map_Oct07_overviewPlusStreets.jpg  THIS MAP HAS STREET NAMES ON IT.  TO SEE LCPOA, LOOK IN AREA 8 & 9 .

POWER LINE - THREE  THREATS TO PLATEAU: 1. ELSINORE VALLEY MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT & NEVADA HYDRO are partners in the LEAPS power line licensing process through a Federal agency, FERC. 2. Then NEVADA HYDRO asked FERC for a license to build just a power line, on their own. 3. Nevada Hydro also went to our state agency, CPUC, and requested a power line through Elsinore and La Cresta be approved as the preferred power line route, in a power line license process that SDG&E initiated. Apparently, Nevada Hydro will join any power line license process and request that their route, here in La Cresta, be used.

Your donations are at work. FOF&P has paid $10,000.00 to pay for a share of legal fees.  Attorneys had to be hired because the state CPUC only allows attorneys to make appearances, write letters and do all the things that FOF&P has managed on their own in the Federal - FERC -process.

There is a way for individuals to protest this latest attempt. Write a letter, or get your Association or CSD to write a letter, saying you object to a power line on the grounds of blight, fire danger, ruination of the forest, road damage to local streets, homes not shown on Nevada Hydro maps that will be severely affected.  Add your own reasons too.

The time frame for a protest letter to count will be until mid April.  Use the number: Application 07-10-005, on each page of your letter to the CPUC. Mail to CPUC, Docket Office, Room 2001, 505 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA. 94102.

Anyone wishing to help with attorneys fees and wants to donate to preserve our fantastic Plateau, send a check made out to FOF&P (Friends of the Forest and Plateau ) mail to FOF&P, 38900 Clinton Keith Rd, Murrieta, Cal.  FOF&P is a non profit 501c3 organization, so you can write off  your donation. THANK YOU to everyone who has already sent a check.

Manage your runoff/silt!  LCPOA will begin monitoring unresolved issues with property owners' erosion control and silt management.  In the event that property owners are unresponsive or negligent, LCPOA will pay to have the issues repaired and bill the property owners.  In addition, a formal complaint may be made to the County.  So, be proactive, neighborly and kind, and resolve your issues before they become a larger problem for the community.  To report an issue, please contact Equity Management and/or submit a Complaint form found on the Public Docs page.

Holiday Lights Contest

Christmas is coming soon!  Don’t forget about the LCPOA annual holiday decorations contest when you are preparing for the festivities.

The Beautification Committee members will be driving on all the streets of La Cresta judging the creativity and overall effect of your lights on Wednesday through Friday, December 12, 13, and 14 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.   Please be sure to have your lights on during all of these times.  Some years we have fog, and if we’re lucky, rain, so we can’t always get the viewing done in one or two nights.  If you are worried that your place may be missed and you have spent a lot of time and effort putting up a spectacular scene, please call Marion at 677-7693 and we will be sure to find your place even if it is on a hidden cul de sac.

Awards will be given out on Sunday evening, December 16th.

1pm at the Wildomar Senior Center meeting room (air conditioned facility with room for more residents than the fire station).

------------------

The Looking Good Award for October was awarded to longtime residents Chuck and Judy Feeney at 38835 Avenida La Cresta. I'm sure you have all noticed the peaceful meadow-like lawn inhabited by life-like deer statues and shady trees.  There is a rock garden accent on the south side.  Altogether, it is a lovely, tranquil property.

FIRE SAFE COUNCIL IS THE THIRD MONDAY OF EACH MONTH AT THE FIRE STATION AT 7PM.

FireSafe Council would like to remind residents to come to the meeting Monday night at the Fire Station -- In addition to the scheduled program regarding "Plateau Fire History", there will be reps from other Plateau entities to talk about preparing for a fire up here. This has to be a grass roots movement -- with telephone trees in place -- knowledge of your immediate neighbor's wishes regarding children and animals if they aren't home -- knowing all the "safe areas" where there would be open spaces (with no stand of trees to burn),fencing, water -- a cell phone site, maybe a store of emergency supplies and first aid items...etc., etc. This was just an appetizer -- letting people know just how unprepared we all are!!

Attend the LCPOA Board Candidates' Forum September

Wednesday September 12 @ 6pm at the Wildomar Senior Center meeting room (air conditioned facility with room for more residents than the fire station).

Several volunteers deserve our gratitude for their hard labor at the entrance to La Cresta! Craig Hurst and Gidget Thompson spearheaded a clean up effort in and around the old guard station.  They cleaned egg off the windows, swept cobwebs, took down old posters, weeded and picked up LOTS of trash.  Thanks to them and their crew:  Kyle Thompson, Jamie & Taylor Rainey.  Kudos to positive people gettin’ it done!!!

From Chuck Whitney, Roads Committee Chair:Roadworks, Inc will be performing crack sealing on La Cresta roads starting on 14 August 2007.  This project will take approximately 4 days.  The Road Committee requests that motorists be aware that there will be workers removing debris from the cracks using high pressure air and applying the sealant to the cracks.  Some minor delays should be expected especially on Avenida La Cresta from the old visitor center to Valle Vista.

This summer, please be especially careful with your animals.  We have had many killings and attempted killing by natural predators, who seem especially hungry and thirsty this year.  As we deplete their resources by building and clearing, and Mother Nature deprives them of their food, they have no choice but to come a little closer to us.

Special LCPOA Board Meeting Wed July 25 at 6pm at Bear Creek Fire Station.  All LCPOA property owners are encouraged to attend.

The Board will discuss:

1.       ’07 – ’08 Budget

2.       Articles of Inc

3.       Easements

Resident Vet!

We have a relatively new resident in La Cresta.  Brook Ashley is an LCPOA member and Veterinarian who is on the Plateau 6 days a week.  On Weds she works at a Pet Hospital in Ontario, and is home or nearby all other 6 days of the week.  Yesterday, she made a house call to check on Lobo, my recently coyote bit baby (she is going to be fine!).  She is trained in equine, works on most all animals and is available for house calls for emergencies and non-emergencies.  I found her to be REALLY nice and caring!  She can be reached at:

951-304-7726 home or 714-709-6572 cell  Brooke0458@hotmail.com

LCPOA Town Hall

Thanks to all who were able to attend the Town Hall meeting yesterday at the Fire Station.  Some of what makes a Town Hall Meeting different from a monthly LCPOA Board Meeting is that it is not governed by the Board, nor follows Parliamentary Procedure.   In addition, other communities are invited to participate.  While this frequently creates a less structured meeting and perhaps a little healthy chaos, it is a great opportunity for candor and often passionate debate.

Great news from the Sheriff’s Department!  Several arrests were made this past weekend relating to 2 separate burglaries on the Plateau.  The investigation is ongoing and may result in further arrests.  Sheriff’s Dept appreciates the tips and information from our Community.  Please continue to immediately contact the Sheriff’s Dept with any suspicious persons or vehicles sited in the area.   A press release will be made shortly.

We should all remember that we human La Crestans are living in a natural habitat very recently inhabited only by the wild ones - mountain lions, coyotes, bobcats and (sadly, gone from our area now for 100 years) black bear.  As guardians of our own little creatures, we walk a fine line of being awestruck by nature and being aware of the dangers we introduce to our pets by living here.  Please Please Please remember that it is Springtime and the wild animals are doing what they do naturally – looking for easy food.  Coyotes, our wild doggies, are especially bold this time of year, so keep your dogs (all sizes) in close range always and inside at night.  Dawn and Dusk are the most dangerous times, however the rules are bending as the coyotes’ habitat shrinks.  We can live in harmony if we all care enough to be cautious.

It is also an extremely dangerous rattlesnake season after a winter with no rain to speak of.  Newcomers, don’t walk your property on a hot day in sandals.  Wear closed shoes or boots and take a walking stick to deter a snake’s attention away from you.  Don’t reach under brush or rocks and simply keep a keen eye out.  Again, snakes are a natural part of our SoCal habitat.  The “good” snakes should not be mistaken for the vipers.  Our King Snakes and Gopher Snakes are our friends, warding off Rattlers and rodents.

From your Beautification Committee (Thank you Dierk & Cecile for this valuable information!)  The Trees Need Your Help.  Our Engleman Oaks were shedding their old leaves and  tight terminal buds were showing on the branches but there was no further development.   May 1, we placed our soaker sprinkler lines under two trees.  The fine misting rotating sprinklers set in drip line tubing @ 8'- on center were left on for twenty four hours.  Today the rejuvenated trees have a measureable new terminal growth -of up to four inches long.  Almost unbelievable! The native trees and other trees that depend on rainfall for their growth cycle have been shorted this year.  They have received only three or four inches of rain scattered over seven months instead of our norm of 22 inches. Help the trees out with a soaking around the perimeter of the tree now and again in two weeks.

Recipients of the "Looking Good Award " this month are Doug and Diana Slumskies, residence 40480 Via Caballos.  The renewed landscaping is emitting a quiet, serene and natural feeling as you visiualize this property.  The front is outlined with a nice old native rock wall and creates a lovely entry way.  Lovely old oaks seem placed perfectly, accompanied with plantings of pines, sycamores and eucalyptus trees.  Throughout there are some light colored gravel paths, bordered with railroad ties and other wood planks.  Also there are some darker gravel and raked areas creating islands for natural boulders and trees. Some contrast is given by the use of the Japanese blooming plum trees.  From the entry to the inner area rosemary plants are well placed, mock orange shrubs and hawthornes --which presently are seen in pretty pink springtime bloom.  Cecile Peters, Beautification Committee

Sheriff's Detective Department has opened Burglary File

April 26th, webmaster received information that confirmed Sheriff's Dept working on our burglaries.  We can thank our many resident peace officers for communicating with one another and helping to get this the attention it needs.  A file has been opened within the Detective Department and we are communicating with them regularly.  Please note any suspicious activity and report immediately to Sheriff Dept.  You may also email the report to webmaster@lacrestapoa.org and I will forward.

Burglary:We got a call from a neighbor's daughter (Wed 4/25 p.m.) Her parents are traveling, they left last Monday. She checked the house over the weekend and discovered  that sometime during the last week, that house was burgled as well. Somebody broke into the house through the garage and stole just about everything of value. They opened every drawer, broke windows, even used a chainsaw to extract and steal a wall safe. The home did not have an alarm. The daughter is staying in the house with her husband until her parents can get back. She wanted to let everyone in the Association know so we can keep an eye out for each other. This is getting serious. Help spread the word?

Cul de Sac Residents, If it isn’t already, seriously consider having your cul de sac clearly marked so that emergency vehicles may find it in an emergency.  A common remark from emergency personnel is they frequently have trouble finding our individual properties.  If you live on a cul de sac, it is your responsibility to install a street marker.  If you have it designed and installed in compliance with LCPOA specs, it will forever be maintained by LCPOA.  For information, please contact Equity Management at 296-5640 or any member of the Road Committee.  Murrieta Sign Company in Murrieta is familiar with and able to produce and install compliant signs.

March Beautification "Looking Good" Award

March's "Looking Good Award" goes to Mr.& Mrs. Mark Lacy, 35701 Avenida La Cresta.  At their entry the wagon wheels in a stucco wall greet you with the southwestern theme of the landscaping.  Raywood ash and liquid amber trees have been used in the frontage area.  Ascending the driveway, there are drought tolerant bushes planted with pines.  For the occasional necessity of drainage there is a dry streambed following the driveway.  The pasture has the native oaks-large enough to be safe in having horses share this area.  The red volcanic rock , as a ground cover, gives an accent to the larger grey stones at the terminus of the drystream beyond the fenced area.  Railroad tie fencing with brown wooden rails surround the pasture on each side of the gate.  It is a cowboy's lovely, low maintenance landscape fulfillment.
Our Congratulations, The Beautification Committee.

Alarming News: During the morning hours of April 17th, the Hazard residence at 21970 The Trails Circle was burglarized and vandalized.  Anything and everything of value was stolen and the house was ransacked.  We are asking for assistance... if anyone saw anything suspicious or unusual, please contact the Hazards at 951-600-4560 with information.  Any clues will be of assistance.  The police indicated there was at least one other home in La Cresta recently burglarized in the same manner.  Sand was thrown into the dogs' eyes, a new flat screen TV was taken, jewelry, collectibles, a safe was blown up, every door and drawer was opened.

Please be aware that this could happen to you.  Set your alarm if you have one.  Consider getting one if you don't and sign up for monitoring too.  Keep an eye out for strange things and make a note of descriptions and license numbers or take pictures.  Call the police to respond if you witness a person or persons loading items into a vehicle.  Listen for dogs barking or other strange sounds (pops, bangs, explosions).  Install motion lights for nighttime protection (within the ARC guidelines.)  Be careful that you are not followed if making a large purchase such as a big screen television or equipment purchase.  Please take precautions before approaching strangers as they may be armed and dangerous.  Your life is not worth that risk. Let's all work together on keeping a neighborhood watch!

Easter Weekend:  New residents on Corte Solomon, off Paseo de Flores and Ave La Cresta were gone last Thursday thru Sunday.  The burglary occurred sometime during that time.  Burglars used a crow bar on the back door and took over $20k worth of items, including a $2000 coffeemaker, LCD 52" TV, jewelry (including her wedding ring.

A white van was seen in the driveway during this time.  There is some buzz about the same types of burglaries happening on and off the hill.  Please be alert, set your alarms and report to Sheriff Dept anything suspicious.  If you have pertinent information that needs to be shared with the LCPOA community, you may email  webmaster@lacrestapoa.org.

Vaccination against snake bit – Anti Venom and Vitamin K

Friday and Saturday April 6 & 7  10am-2pm  $26 per dog  Reservations required - Make reservations by calling Lisa or Gidget.  This is a once a year shot that will build your dogs’ antibodies against the venom of poisonous snakes (ie Rattlers).  60 pounds and above dogs need a second shot a month later.  You may arrange that with the local care giver at this event.

Even if your dog has been bitten and treated, you should still have your dog vaccinated.   You do not want to go through what we did with our dog Lobo in February.  One big scare and $1100 later, she is fine.  But these bites are nasty.  With the vaccination, you would simply treat the wound. Clinic being held at the Barn Lisa Leonard  (thank you wonderful, kind Lisa! And thank you Gidget, you rock).   39636 Via Cabellos, on the hill where Cabellos dead ends into Castilla.  Lisa  714-240-4063. Gidget 677-7594

Important Meeting Regarding Proposed Half Way House in Wildomar    1/28/07  February 7 at Wildomar Elementary 7pm.  Residents of the area are invited to a presentation on proposed 180-bed Affordable Housing apartment building for homeless tenants in Wildomar.

Thieves Ringing Door Bells 1/17/07  The past few days have produced a myriad of stories - all with a very similar and alarming ring.  All of the stories report a young man and/or a young woman appearing at residents' gates and doors assertively asking for money.  The alleged thieves travel together in either a white sedan or white pickup and go door to door as a couple "of kids looking for donations to their sports club".  They identify themselves as the children of a Dr. Brennon, who lives on Lobo, Entrada or other local (accurate) streets.  The couple says they are collecting money for their baseball or soccer team so that they can travel to Tokyo, Hawaii and other faraway sites.  Obviously the story is adapted from house to house, victim to victim.  Reports concur that the couple are young, perhaps in the late teens or twenties, white and again, drive a white sedan and/or white pickup.  If you see a suspicious incident, please immediately contact the Sheriff's office.  Our local peace officers have been notified and will do their best to respond.

Gates of La Cresta  Dec 2006.  Clearly, the gating situation in La Cresta is in transition.  "To what?" most are asking.  LCPOA will keep you posted through this website and periodic newsletter articles on all the latest developments. As of 4th Quarter 2006, "the hump" is still a contender for the location of the proposed gate. However, some County issues have arisen that the Board is working to resolve.  By no fault of the LCPOA Board, the process has been delayed and complicated.  Please be assured that the entire LCPOA Board, Equity Management and our attorneys are working continuously on this project.  To stay abreast of this an all LCPOA issues, regularly visit the La Cresta Property Owners Association Board meetings, which are held each month.

Trail Easements   Dec 2006.  Trail easements are not written into the CC&Rs of LCPOA.  Therefore, our POA does not mandate that individual  residents grant trail easements.  While many believe that a safe internal trail system is critical to our community's long-term success, if there are no recorded easements on your parcel, it is entirely your choice whether to grant them. Please contact Marge Etchandy, Trails Committee Chair,  for more information, including benefits to property values, good will toward the community, legal implications, association insurance policy, liability and associated information.  Get informed and make your own decision.

The project is along Clinton Keith Road from Calle Del Oso Oro to Grand Avenue and will involve the removal and replacement of deteriorated sections of roadway. The road will be restored with a pavement reinforcing fabric and an asphalt overlay across the entire width of roadway.  The construction is scheduled to start November 2006 and will continue until the end of January 2007. Clinton Keith Road will remain open during construction; however traffic flow may be impacted from time to time as a result of lane closures and construction activity. You may contact me at (951) 445-0325 if you have any questions regarding the project.

Brush Collections   Oct 6 06  The FireSafe Council's Plateau fall brush collection sites and dates have been scheduled as below. This community program is an ongoing effort to control brush and manage wild fuel loads which threaten structures.  Only brush and tree trimmings are accepted for the chipping.  No limbs larger than 3" diameter, no lumber, grass clippings, fibrous material (i.e. palm fronds) or construction debris will be accepted.  Supervised collection takes place on the weekends listed from 8-4.  Once the chipping is completed, free mulch is provided to any property owner willing to come and pick it up.

October 'Looking Good Award'   Oct 5 06  Darroll and Adele Buytenhuys at 20202 Arboles receive this month's LOOKING GOOD AWARD.  The primary comment when seeing the landscaping of their home is "spacious, simple and neat"  The entry greets you with colorful blooming plants.  Lovely old oaks are in the far right of the property.  These offer grace and privacy between the roadway and their homesite.  The perimeter and corral fencing is the same and in harmony.  Well placed in the garden are the vineyard and the avocado grove.  Fruit trees are planted also and give more beauty, variety and balance to the site.   There is a lawn which gives serenity and leads to the pleasant focal point of the pepper trees, sycamores, mimosas and eucalyptus trees.  Cute daisy bushes outline the perimeter fence.  All plantings seem
destined to a more beautiful maturity.

New Board Members   Oct 5 06  The two new board members elected at the Wednesday night annual meeting are Howard Ogden and Stan Kensic.  Office positions will be announced at the monthly board meeting Wednesday, October 11th, at 6 pm at Bear Creek Fire Station #75.  The final vote total was Howard Ogden 314, Stan Kensic 312, and Lis Leonard-Owens 135.  The new election law requires that the association inform you of the tabulated results.

Smokey the Bear is Back!   Sep 20 06  Smokey the Bear is back.  He is back on Clinton Keith Road across from the Fire Station 75. About a year ago,our old friend Smokey The Bear who had given us the warnings for about ten years turned up missing.  Something had sheared him off just above the ground, the concrete foundations were still there, but his remains were no where to be seen.  Investigations into his disappearance were disappointing.  This year Smokey is back--a little bit bigger and braver looking, now with a pointed shovel in his hand, smart new shirt and hat, smiling as he tells us the fire rating is "Very High ".  Al and Laurie Roberts, long time residents of La Cresta contacted the fire station to determine if Smokey was going to be replaced.  They were told that money was not in the budget to pay for his replacement. So the Roberts took it on their own to replace Smokey, so that we would all know the fire rating each day.

September 'Looking Good Award'   Sep 20 06  Mike and Rosemary Dileo are receiving the "Looking Good Award" this month.  Their Mediterranean home sits atop a hill at 21153 Paseo Montana with a lovely rockery garden sloping down.  Many large natural rock formations are complemented with Washington and Queen Palms,Cotillas, natural grasses and shrubs,Pepper trees and Flowering Plums.  Gravel areas line the driveway.  Much work is obviously realized in the beautiful taming of this property.

August 'Looking Good Award'   Sep 20 06  The Millers, Gene and Barbara, at 20480 Starfire Court are receiving the "Looking Good Award" this August.  Their garden sports miscellaneous mature trees and shrubs.  There are pines, olives and other evergreen trees.  Color is in shrubs as in the rose bushes and agapanthus lining the driveway.  At present the area surrounding the circular drive at the front is being renovated.  There is red crushed lava rock with contrast of lovely palm plantings.  The older garden and the use of brick walls and pilasters accent, enclose and beautify the front yard.

Fight Back Against LEAPS!   Aug 27 06  Here’s an opportunity to fight back against the power line project!  For the past decade the threat of a 30-mile, high-tension fire hazard, running through the dry chaparral of the Cleveland National Forest, has loomed over residents from Tom’s Farms to Tenaja. The Lake Elsinore Advanced Pump Storage project (LEAPS) and its attendant 1600-megawatt transmission line have ignited the ire of many concerned residents. Now an unexpected opportunity to pool resources to fight the entire project has arisen. The November election will include three candidates for the board of directors of the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District: John Lloyd, Doug Pinnow and incumbent Chris Hyland. They all oppose the project!  If this slate is elected they will control the board and can deal with the misbegotten hydro plan. Unless you are an EVMWD customer you can't vote for this slate. But you can protect your view, and your property values, by supporting these candidates. Visit www.CleanUpEVMWD.com and/or send a campaign contribution to: Citizens to Clean Up the EVMWD, P. O. Box 823, Wildomar, CA 92595.

Trail Closure   Aug 1 06  The Dog Leg trail between Avenida Bonita and Calle de Companero is closed until further notice due to several cases of strangles in horses in the area.

Plateau Seniors Wanted   Jul 24 06  Calling all 80+ seniors who are looking for some companionship, discussion of your life experience and fixing the world's problems of today.  Would you be able to meet in the afternoons every  Wednesday or Thursday, from 1pm - 4pm at 39660 Via Sereno, in La Cresta, close to the corner of Vista de Montanas and Hombre/Via Sereno?  It will be a serve yourself bar with lots of tea, coffee, water, cold drinks and snacks... and, hopefully, a room full of new friends. There is plenty of parking, no steps, and a couple of fun canine friends to greet you.  But most important, the hope that you will come have some laughs and good times.  Please contact Kathy Greenway at 951-258-9526 if you can make it.

July 'Looking Good Award'   Jul 1 06  This month's choice for the Beautification Committee's "Looking Good Award" is:Glenn and Deborah Carey.  Their home and garden site is at 37985 Via Baya.  Both depict the western theme.  Wagons and wagon wheels accentuate the plant selection.  The earthy floor is apropos for the surrounding plants.  There are many special succulents and other trees and shrubs.  Perennials give colorful blooms.  There are day-lilies, daisies, penstomens and agapanthus mingling with the lovely area stones.  The oak trees and the redwoods planted add to the local native realism.

June 'Looking Good Award'   May 31 06  This month's award goes to Ed & Deanna Ender at 39985 Calle de Suenos.  They have worked ceaselessly for the past year to improve their property.  Because of their topography, much of their landscaping is terraced. They have a gazebo and other outbuildings that match the home perfectly.Lawns, colorful plantings and fruit trees add to the curb appeal.

May 'Looking Good Award'   May 8 06  The LOOKING GOOD AWARD winners for this month are Debby and Lynn Ladenes, 38325 Via Huerta.  The garden is a lovely arrangement of cacti and euphorbias.  As you enter the homesite it is reminescent of an oasis in the desert, very lush.  The plants are large and placed among local big stones.  The larger plant specimens are more tolerant of our colder winter nights and also well suited to the warm dry summers.  A plus is their water efficiency.  The yard is truly educational and exemplary of successful local planting materials. Some items used were, choya, yuccas, blackrose bushes, barrel cacti, euphorbia-Christ thorn which is presently in it's bright red bloom, pytia , palo-verde tree, Mexican grass trees, sago palms, and the gorgeous saguaro.  Railroad ties and smaller gravel was used to create terraced beds.  It's a lovely garden!

April 'Looking Good' Award   Apr 11 06  The April 'Looking Good' Award has been presented to Frank and Yvonne Alonso.  Their property at 21020 Paseo Montana with its large strategically placed boulders and rocks showcase groupings of succulents, palms and cacti.  The Alonsos have concentrated on using drought tolerant native plants, which complement their Mediterranean styled home.  This landscapping shows thoughtful attention to the use of water-wise landscaping - setting off their circular driveway and the entry to their home.

March 'Looking Good' Award   Mar 2 06  The La Cresta area now has another spectacular landscaped garden.  Some areas are at present under development.  Much has been completed to create splendour and yet simplicity in the design. The large oaks have been given protection with stone walls and boxwood plantings at the driplines.  Lawns with accents of  rock, waterfalls, water fountains and a boating pond give the property a large sense of distance, beauty and serenity.  Also at the edges of the lawn, curved concrete curbings are in place to outline the green smooth expanse.  This curbing is from the interior and continues passed the fencing to the exterior.  Likewise for the boxwood hedge which encloses the colorful annuals for the roadway frontage.  There are evergreens and lovely decideous trees plus the perennials placed throughout the acreage. The thoughts and efforts for this beautiful accomplishment is awarding Mr. and Mrs. Ed , [Nancy] Dufresne , this month's "Looking Good" award from the Beautification Committee.  They are located at 38550 Calle de Companero.  Congratulations !

February 'Looking Good Award'   Feb 6 06  The February  'LOOKING GOOD AWARD' is given to Harold & Linda Davids, 37665 Avenida La Cresta. At present the highlight to passersby is the tall bloom on the agave plant in the elevated and protected succulent garden near the fence in front of the home site.  A large amount of the area is in spacious lawn.  There are many large trees, some evergreens and some deciduous placed throughout the grounds.  There are many pepper trees, Queen palms, some Olives and many other large deciduous trees.  Much work and design was done using the local rocks for the long streambed that is functional and picturesque as it winds under the two-foot bridges and the one motor bridge.  There's an addition of a few but well placed accents of color and bloom with the use of rose bushes. The ornamentation on the pilaster caps and the lovely simple wrought ironwork of the fence adds much unobtrusiveness and beauty to the Mediterranean architecture of the residence and landscape.  CONGRATULATIONS !

January 'Lookin Good Award'   Jan 9 06  The landscaping "Lookin Good Award" this month is given to Mr.& Mrs. Dino Tagnani at 21005 Paseo Montanas.  Their presentation required much thought and efforts to bring this beautiful show of maturing plantings to the hilltop  home.  Manicured designs , brick, masonry and light fixtures make an impressive driveway entrance.   Numerous plants cover the grounds as their placement covers from the roadside to the residence.  An avocado grove occupies much of the land plus many other plants -palms,native oaks, native sage and ground covers such as ice plant and rosemary. It is encouraging for neighborhoods to see these lovely gardens and their careful maintenance.  The efforts benefit the resident as well as our whole community. Congratulations Dino and Christine Tagnani.
